"I've never danced before... except that time at my cousin's wedding..." Great! Dance I is a class that will introduce you to a little bit of everything!
"I've taken some dance classes before, but I don't have time to do much outside of school." No problem! Dance II builds on what you already know and has minimal after school commitments!
"I take classes at a dance studio, how do I know what to sign up for?" Sign up for Dance I on your CRC, but then attend the placement class to get approval for a more advanced class.
"I love to perform! How can I dance in halftime shows for football and basketball?" Fantastic! Come to auditions for Dance Team!
"Does Serrano Dance ever go to competitions?" Absolutely! We have competitive dance teams who compete throughout southern California!
Dance I
No audition needed!
Prerequisites: None A-G Approved: Yes ("F" Visual and Performing Arts)
Dance I is a year-long course introducing students to many different styles of dance. The purpose of this course is to give students basic working knowledge in some of the most popular forms of dancing:
Hip Hop
Jazz
Contemporary
Ballet
Musical Theater
Tap
This course is ideal for students with little to no previous dance experience, and it can be very beneficial to those looking to audition for various roles in the Serrano Performing Arts Programs:

Dance II
Prerequisites: Dance I and/or approval of instructor A-G Approved: Yes ("F" Visual and Performing Arts) Approved for Physical Education waiver
Dance IIprovides an intermediate study of jazz, hip hop, ballet, and contemporary. Students will also have the opportunity to explore other dance genres (drill, tap, musical theater, etc.). Creative expression will be explored through physical skills, flexibility, technique, and historical/cultural influences. Students will be able to put this knowledge into practice through creating their own choreography. This is a performance based class; participation in class showcases and the dance concerts are required.
Dance III
Prerequisites: Audition Only A-G Approved: yes ("F" Visual and Performing Arts) Approved for Physical Education waiver
Dance III is designed for students with prior dance training and enrollment is by audition only. This course is an advanced level, year-long dance class where students will demonstrate mastery in numerous styles of dance and technique, create works of art through choreography projects, and perform in a number of showcases and events. The class challenges students who wish to excel in the art of dance through advanced techniques, fast-paced learning, versatility, performance, and self-evaluation.
Dance IV
Prerequisites: Audition Only A-G Approved: pending("F" Visual and Performing Arts) Approved for Physical Education waiver
Dance IV is an advanced level course where students dance utilizing a wide variety of styles that include Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, and World dance. Students will choreograph for the Fall and Spring semester performances as well as develop their teaching skills through a dance teaching internship at the high school, a local elementary school and/or dance studio. Students have the opportunity to perform in many events. Classes are a combination of dance rehearsals, choreography projects, critique, and group work. This is a performance based class; participation in class showcases and the dance concerts are required.
Dance Team
Prerequisites: Audition Only Approved for Physical Education waiver
Dance Team is an audition-based, year-long commitment. The team offers participants a unique opportunity to combine athleticism with artistic creativity through dance expression. Dancers learn various styles of dance such as: jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and many others, with a continuous focus on conditioning, dance technique, and showmanship. It aims to build confidence and dependability while creating a sense of accomplishment in members and promoting pride in our school.

Competition Team
Prerequisites: Audition Only Approved for Physical Education waiver
Competition Teams are an extension of the Dance Team and are also audition-based and held after school hours. Competition Team is selected in October from current team members and competes at regional and state competitions February through May. Dance styles for competition pieces vary each year, but usually consist of Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, and/or Hip Hop.
